State Grants:
Project Search High School Transition Program

Funding Source: Florida Developmental Disabilities Council
Funding Award:  Five local collaboratives.  FDDC will provide mini-grants to each local pilot site in the amount of $10,000 to cover travel expenses related to attending the 2-day orientation session in Florida and the 2 day tour/training in Cincinnati. Other funds may be used to cover expenses related to materials and equipment required for the Project SEARCH classroom. FDDC will fund 2-3 site visits by Project SEARCH staff to each pilot site for the purpose of securing a business partner and providing ongoing technical assistance and training for program implementation.
Eligibility: Not-for-profit agencies/businesses, for-profit agencies/businesses, school systems, and governmental entities may submit proposals as the lead agency in response to this competitive solicitation.
Description: The Florida Developmental Disabilities Council (FDDC) is seeking five (5) local collaboratives to participate in a statewide pilot of the Project SEARCH High School Transition Program. The High School Transition Program is a one-year educational program for students with disabilities in their last year of high school. It is targeted for students whose main goal is competitive employment. The program takes place in a not for profit agency/business, for-profit agency/business, a school system, or governmental entity total immersion in the workplace facilitates career exploration and training leading to competitive employment. The Project SEARCH High School Transition Program is a unique one-year school-to-work program that takes place entirely at the workplace. Total workplace immersion facilitates a seamless combination of classroom instruction, career exploration, and on the-job training and support. The goal for each student is competitive employment. The program provides real-life work experience combined with training in employability and independent living skills to help youth with significant disabilities make successful transitions from school to productive adult life

Consumers and  Families Leadership and Development Assistance

Funding Source: The Florida Developmental Disabilities Council, Inc. (FDDC), funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
Funding Award:  FDDC has set aside federal funds for a period not to exceed one (1) year for fiscal support of this RFP. Funding for this contract will not exceed $50,000, match is required.

Description: to assist individuals with developmental disabilities and their families to participate in various training opportunities, meetings, forums and information sessions that will enable them to become better self-advocates and enhance their quality of life through improved knowledge of many aspects of the disability system. The selected provider will do this by awarding financial assistance and making arrangements for individuals with developmental disabilities and families to attend such events.

Federal Grants:
Veteran Stand Down Awards (Repeat)

Funding Source: The U.S. Department of Labor (USDOL), Veterans' Employment and Training Service (VETS)
Funding Amount: VETS anticipates that up to $400,000 will be available in each of the three fiscal years for grant awards of up to a maximum of $10,000 per multi-day event (more than one day), and a maximum of $7,000 for a one (1) day event. VETS expects to award approximately forty-five (45) grants each fiscal year. Availability of Fiscal Year 2009, and Fiscal Year 2010 funds will be dependent upon Congressional appropriations. Stand Down funding is a non-competitive grant awarded on a first-
come, first-served basis until available residual funding is exhausted.
Eligibility: Eligible applicants will generally fall into one of the following
categories:State and local Workforce Boards, Veteran Service Organizations, local public agencies, and non-profit organizations including community and faith-based organizations. Current competitive HVRP grantees are not eligible for a separate
non-competitive Stand Down grant award as described in the announcement. Current competitive HVRP grantees are authorized to utilize existing funds for Stand Down purposes.
Description: A Stand Down is an event held in a local community where homeless veterans are provided with a wide variety of social services in one location. Any events approved in Fiscal Year 2008 must be held prior to 12/31/08. For the purpose of this Stand Down grant award, applicants must plan (and indicate in writing in their grant application package) to provide the following minimum services to homeless veteran participants: Department of Veterans Affairs medical and mental health services;
Department of Labor--State Workforce Agency employment and training services to include Disabled Veterans' Outreach Program and Local Veterans' Employment Representatives participation where available; an assortment of hot and/or cold foods to provide to homeless veteran participants; an assortment of clothing appropriate for the local climate to provide to homeless veteran participants; and  Referral services to secure emergency housing on-the-spot for homeless veteran participants.Application Information: Application for Stand Down grant funding are to be submitted to the appropriate State Director of Veterans Employment and Training/ Grant Officer Technical Representative (DVET/GOTR). Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program (Repeat)

Funding Source:  U.S. Internal Revenue Service
Funding Amount: Applicants must also provide matching funds on a dollar-for-dollar basis.  Matching funds consist of cash, computer hardware and software and third-party, in-kind contributions. Funding from other federal grants cannot be counted as matching funds.
Eligibility: A private or public non-profit organization qualifying for tax exemption under IRC 501, a state or local government agency, a regional, statewide or local coalition with one lead organization that meets one of the eligibility criteria stated above.
Description: The Community VITA grant program is the first of its kind at the IRS. In December 2007, Congress appropriated funds to the IRS to establish and administer a one-year matching grant program in consultation with the Taxpayer Advocate Service.   The VITA program offers free tax help for low-to-moderate income individuals for tax return preparation. Under the grant program, the IRS will award matching grants to extend services to underserved populations and hard-to-reach areas, both urban and non-urban. The grants will also be used to increase the capacity to file returns electronically and enhance training of volunteers at VITA sites.

Technology-Based Learning (TBL) Initiative (Repeat)

Eligibility: The applicant must be either: • An accredited educational institution in partnership with a Workforce Investment Board. The applicant must have a letter of commitment from the Workforce Investment Board. • A private provider of workforce system services determined to be tax exempt under section 501(C) of the Internal Revenue Code, including registered apprenticeship sponsors, in partnership with a Workforce Investment Board. The applicant must have a letter of commitment from the Workforce Investment Board. • A One-Stop Career Center as established under Section 121 of WIA, [29 USC 2841], in partnership with a state or local Workforce Investment Board. The eligible applicant for One-Stop Career Centers is the One-Stop Operator, as defined under Section 121(d) of WIA [29 USC 2841(d)], on behalf of the One-Stop Career Center. The One-Stop applicant must have a letter of commitment from the state or local Workforce Investment Board, and demonstrate that the Workforce Investment Board, or its designated fiscal agent, will serve as the fiscal agent for the grant by clearly providing the legal name and the Employer Identification number of the fiscal agent. The Workforce Investment Board’s support and involvement in the project should be detailed in the letter of commitment. Applications from One-Stop Career Centers without a letter of commitment from their Workforce Investment Board will be considered non-responsive and will not be reviewed. • An employer or industry association in partnership with a Workforce Investment Board. Description: The purpose of the Initiative is to expand access to training resulting in an increased number of workers trained, particularly in high-growth, high-demand occupations, and to meet the needs of industry for skilled employees. Applicants must seek to train individuals towards attainment of an industry or occupationally recognized certificate or credential. Funds available under this Solicitation may only be used for projects that provide training in the occupations and industries for which employers use H–1B visas or those related activities necessary to support training in such occupations and industries.

Federally recognized Native American Tribe or Tribal Organizations that will deliver services on a Reservation or federally recognized Tribal lands. Partnerships for Innovation Program (Repeat)

Funding Award: Awards: 12-15 partnerships among academia, the private sector, and state/local/ federal government that will explore new approaches to support and sustain innovation. Awards may be up to $600,000 with an award duration of two or three years.
Eligibility: Proposals may only be submitted by accredited degree granting Institutions: U.S. universities and two- and four-year colleges located in the U.S., its territories, or possessions.
Description: The goals of the Partnerships for Innovation Program are to: stimulate the transformation of knowledge created by the research and education enterprise into innovations that create new wealth; build strong local, regional and national economies; and improve the national well-being; broaden the participation of all types of academic institutions and all citizens in activities to meet the diverse workforce needs of the national innovation enterprise; and catalyze or enhance enabling infrastructure that is necessary to foster and sustain innovation in the long-term. In the Partnerships for Innovation program, NSF seeks to stimulate and capitalize on innovation by catalyzing partnerships among colleges and universities, the private sector, and federal, state, and local governments. Key factors in the innovation enterprise include the creation of, and access to new knowledge; a scientifically and technologically literate workforce prepared to capitalize on new knowledge in a global context; and an infrastructure that enables innovation and collaboration. For the purposes of this program, innovation explicitly extends both to developing people and tools. Academic institutions which are traditionally recipients of NSF's support play an essential role in generating new knowledge and creating a scientifically and technologically literate workforce.

2009 SeaWorld/Busch Gardens Environmental Excellence Awards

Funding Award: Eight projects will be selected. Each winning organization will receive $10,000; an all-expenses-paid trip for three students and one adult leader to a SeaWorld or Busch Gardens park for a special awards event; one hundred T-shirts to share with school and community partners; and an award trophy and participation certificate for the project leader. From the eight projects, one outstanding environmental educator/leader will be selected to receive $5,000; an all-expenses-paid trip for themselves and one guest to a SeaWorld or Busch Gardens park for a special awards event; an all-expenses-paid trip to the 2009 National Science Teachers Association national conference; and an award trophy and certificate. Eligibility: All schools (grades K-12) in the U.S. are eligible to apply. Projects must be sponsored by a formally recognized school group such as a grade level, classroom, or club.
