Funding Source: The Florida Developmental Disabilities Council, Inc. (FDDC) Funding Amount: Funding of this project will not exceed $70,000 of federal grants funds from FDDC. A match requirement is a requisite.

Description: Develop and distribute training materials to increase family and caregiver knowledge on the importance of good oral health care practices for persons with developmental disabilities. FDDC has set aside federal funds from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services for a period not to exceed one (1) year for fiscal support of this RFP. Description: This solicitation focuses on developing and supporting a peer mentoring program that proactively reaches youth before they are recruited by gangs to develop and strengthen protective factors against gang involvement and other problem behaviors. Successful applicants will include local school districts with a demonstrable Latino gang problem committed to or already working with nonprofits, faith-based organizations, and other community.

2009 Low Income Taxpayer Clinic Grants (LITC)

Funding Source: Internal Revenue Service, Taxpayer Advocate Service
Funding Amount: Matching grants of up to $100,000 per year. The grant will cover the 2009 grant cycle, from Jan. 1, 2009, through Dec. 31, 2009.
Eligibility: Examples of qualifying organizations include: Clinical programs at accredited law, business or accounting schools, whose students represent low income taxpayers in tax disputes with the IRS, and Organizations exempt from tax under Code Section 501(a) that represent low income taxpayers in tax disputes with the IRS or refer those taxpayers to qualified representatives.
Description: To develop, expand or maintain low income taxpayer clinics to assist taxpayers who are experiencing economic harm, who are seeking help in resolving tax problems that have not been resolved through normal channels or who believe that an IRS system or procedure is not working as it should. LITCs are independent organizations that provide low income taxpayers with representation in federal tax controversies with the IRS for free or for a nominal charge. The clinics also provide taxpayer education and outreach for taxpayers who speak English as a second language. Publication 4134, Low Income Taxpayer Clinic List, provides information on clinics.

Description: Provide training and technical assistance to volunteers who provide free tax counseling and assistance to elderly individuals in the preparation of their Federal income tax returns. Grant funds are used to reimburse volunteers for out-of-pocket expenses including transportation, meals, and other expenses incurred by them in providing tax counseling assistance at locations convenient to the taxpayers.

Runaway and Homeless Youth Street Outreach Program (SOP) (repeat)

Description: The purpose of the SOP is to enable programs to help young people leave the streets. The goal of the program is to conduct outreach efforts to build relationships between street outreach staff and street youth. These efforts will provide support services that will assist youth in moving and adjusting to safe and appropriate alternative living arrangements to become independent, self-sufficient, contributing members of society.

Faith-Based Advocacy Program to End Childhood Obesity

Funding Source: Robert Wood Johnson Foundation
Funding Amount: Approximately 20 to 25 grants will be awarded. Each grantee will receive up to $225,000 for 24 months. All grants will be twenty-four months in duration.
Eligibility: Limited to applicants who are tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code; include coalitions of congregations or partnerships of faith-based organizations; have at least two years of experience in policy advocacy to promote social change; have an operating budget of at least $350,000 per year; and are based in the U.S. or its territories.
Description: Foundation is particularly interested in efforts that reach children at greatest risk for obesity, including African-American, Latino, Native American, Asian American, and Pacific Islander children who live in low-income communities or communities with limited access to affordable healthy foods and/or safe opportunities for physical activity.
Application Information: Proposals will be selected on the basis of organizational or coalition strength; potential to increase the availability of affordable healthy foods and/or access to safe places to play; likelihood the project will reach children who are at highest risk for obesity; and likelihood that the effort can continue over time without additional resources. A Web conference call for potential applicants will be held June 18, 2008 (1:30–3 p.m. ET) to provide an overview of this CFP and offer an opportunity to ask questions. Registration is required.
