State Grants:
Criminal Justice, Mental Health and Substance Abuse Reinvestment
Grant
Funding Source: Florida Substance Abuse and Mental Health
Corporation (FSAMHC), Florida Department of Children and
Families
Funding Amount: Total of $3.8 million is available for the
Planning (1-year) and Implementation/ Expansion (3-years)
grants that will be funded through this program. Matching
funds are
required at the rate of 100% of the proposed budget; for
fiscally-constrained counties the match rate is 50% of the
proposed budget. Participation
in a consortium by both fiscally-constrained counties and
non-fiscally-constrained counties will not alter the statutorily
required percentages
of matching funds for each.
Eligibility: A county or a consortium of counties within
Florida may apply for funding.
Description: The purpose of the program is to provide funding
to counties with which they can plan, implement, or expand
initiatives that increase public safety, avert increased
spending on criminal and juvenile justice, and improve the
accessibility
and effectiveness of treatment services for adults and juveniles
who have a mental illness, substance abuse disorder, or co-occurring
mental health and substance abuse disorders and who are in,
or at risk of entering, the criminal or juvenile justice
systems. It is expected that these grants will demonstrate
that investment
in diversion strategies and in treatment efforts related
to mental illness, substance abuse disorders, or co-occurring
mental health and substance abuse disorders will result in
a reduced demand on the resources of the judicial, corrections,
juvenile detention, and health and social services system
