Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Funds

Eligibility: Limited to victim assistance programs administered by state or local government agencies or not-for-profit corporations registered in Florida, or a combination thereof.
Description: The purpose of VOCA grant funds is to support the provision of services to victims of crime. Services are defined as those efforts that respond to the emotional and physical needs of crime victims, assist victims of crime to stabilize their lives after a victimization, assist victims to understand and participate in the criminal justice system and provide victims of crime with a measure of safety and security.

Small Business Transportation Resource Centers (SBTRC)

Description: The purpose of this RFP is to solicit proposals from transportation-related trade associations, chambers of commerce, community based entities, colleges and universities, community colleges, and any other qualifying transportation-related non-profit organizations with the desire and ability to partner with OSDBU to establish and maintain SBTRCs. It is OSDBU's intent to award a cooperative agreement to one partner in each of nine designated geographical areas, from herein referred to as “regions”. However, if warranted, OSDBU reserves the option to make multiple awards to selected partners. Proposals submitted for a particular region must contain a plan to service the entire region, not just the SBTRCs state or local geographical area. Each region’s SBTRC headquarters must be established in the designated state set forth below. Submitted proposals must also contain justification for the establishment of the SBTRC headquarters in a particular city within the designated state.

Garrett A. Morgan Technology and Transportation Education Program

Funding Amount: Currently, total federal funding in the amount of $1,000,000 is available for up to 10 awards. It is possible another $1,000,000 maybe made available prior to award. In such case, up to 10 additional awards may be made. FHWA intends to award up to 20 grants as a result of this RFA. Estimated Award Per Grantee: $100,000. Although this program does not require cost sharing or matching, eligible parties are encouraged to contribute resources as well as leverage the resources of partners to achieve more significant outcomes and ensure an institutional financial commitment to the project.
Eligibility: State governments, County governments, City or township governments, Local educational agencies (LEAs) and State educational agencies (SEAs), which may enter into a partnership agreement with institutions of higher education, businesses, or other entities, are eligible to apply for grants. In accordance with SAFETEA-LU (Public Law 109-59, Section 5204(d)(3)(B)), priority shall be given to applicants that encourage the participation of women and minorities.
Description: The purpose of the Garrett A. Morgan Technology and Transportation Education Program (GAMTTEP) is to improve the preparation of students, particularly women and minorities, in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through curriculum development and other activities related to transportation. Grants awarded under this subsection may be used for enhancing science, technology, engineering, and mathematics at the elementary and secondary school level through such means as--(A) internships that offer students experience in the transportation field; (B) programs that allow students to spend time observing scientists and engineers in the transportation field; and (C) developing relevant curriculum that uses examples and problems related to transportation.

Voluntary Public School Choice Program (VPSC)

Regional Integrated Pest Management Centers

Funding Award: Total Program Funding: $3,890,000, Cost Sharing: Yes. CSREES will award a total of four equally-funded grants for Regional IPM Centers,
one in each of its administrative regions: North Central, Northeastern, Southern, and Western
Eligibility: Applications may be submitted by colleges and universities. For purposes of this program, the terms “college” and “university” mean an educational institution in any State that (1) admits as regular students only persons having a certificate of graduation, or the recognized equivalent of such a certificate, from a school providing secondary education; (2) is legally authorized within such State to provide a program of education beyond secondary education; (3) provides an educational program for which a bachelor’s degree or any other higher degree is awarded; (4) is a public or other nonprofit institution; and (5) is accredited by a nationally recognized accrediting agency or association. Applications also may be submitted by 1994 Land-Grant Institutions (as defined in Part VIII, E., Definitions). A research foundation maintained by a college or university is not eligible to receive an award under this program. Award recipients may subcontract to organizations not eligible to apply provided such organizations are necessary for the conduct of the project. An applicant’s failure to meet an eligibility criterion by the time of an application deadline will result in CSREES returning the application without review or, even though an application may be reviewed, will preclude CSREES from making an award.
Description: The IPM Roadmap addresses pest management needs for production agriculture, natural resources and recreational environments, and residential and public areas. The goal of the Regional Integrated Pest Management Centers (IPM Centers) is to promote the development and implementation of IPM by facilitating collaboration across states, disciplines, and purposes. IPM Centers will establish and maintain information networks, build partnerships to address pest management challenges and opportunities, evaluate the impact of IPM implementation, communicate positive outcomes to key stakeholders, and manage funding resources effectively. SSA Early Identification and Intervention Demonstration

Description: Cooperative agreement funding available to support a project that will design and implement effective, replicable, and sustainable models which will increase the number of children (birth to age 5) who receive developmental screening and improve the early identification of children with developmental delays and/or disabilities. This cooperative agreement will target children from birth to age 5 from the following populations: minority, un-served, underserved, native populations, homeless, premature infants, parental depression or serious emotional disturbance, foster care, low-income, inner city, rural, children affected by substance abuse or withdrawal symptoms resulting from prenatal drug exposure, and children involved in a substantiated case of child abuse. Applicants should show how they intend to assure that participants from diverse populations are served by the project. Applicants must specify the geographic area to be covered by the project. Awardees of cooperative agreement funding must design and implement a model system of early identification and intervention which increases developmental screening of children birth to age 5. Awardees must screen children from at least three of the target populations identified. The awardees and SSA will identify an agreed upon minimum set of screening instruments that can be supplemented depending on the needs of each child, which will be utilized in the project. If the screening reveals that a child has a potential disability or developmental delay, awardees will be required to provide appropriate assessment or refer the child for appropriate assessment. If an assessment reveals a disability or developmental delay, the awardees must provide appropriate early intervention services or refer the child for appropriate early intervention services. Awardees will also be required to provide transportation assistance through a case coordinator, have or develop relationships with providers of screening, assessment, and early intervention services and provide information to families regarding ombudsman or consumer advocacy services. Section 1110 of the Social Security Act authorizes the cooperative agreement funding described in this announcement.

2007 Civic Change Award

Funding Source: Pew Partnership for Civic Change
Funding Award: The 2007 Civic Change Award winner receives a $2500 prize that may be donated to the organization of their choice. The award will be presented at a ceremony in 2007.
Eligibility: Potential nominees include art museums coordinating annual events and training for emerging young artists, locally operated businesses organizing summer internships for youth, or churches that run programs matching senior citizen mentors with young people. In order to qualify for the award the nominee must be able to demonstrate community collaboration, innovative implementation, and evidence of effectiveness.
Description: This year’s award recognizes an individual or organization utilizing community resources to help keep young people in school. Examples include mentoring
programs matching at-risk students with community members, career-oriented
programs working through local businesses that help students realize the
connection between school and work, or initiatives that mobilize community
members in an attempt to publicize the serious nature of the dropout problem in
local schools will recognize organizations or individuals that demonstrate long-term concern for their community’s odds of success by implementing collaborations specifically aimed at reducing the high school dropout rate.

Mental Illness Awareness and Education Effort Grant

Eligibility: Eligible applicants include organizations that have been in existence for at least two years and currently maintain 501(c)(3) charitable status as well as American Psychiatric Association district branches and subsidiaries. Organizations need not be mental health programs.
Description: to fund public education, information, and outreach initiatives that promote the early recognition and treatment of mental illness. Grants from the foundation can support a wide variety of public education activities in this arena. Grants may be sought for new initiatives or the expansion of current programs. Requests must be for educational, informational, or outreach efforts. Those efforts may focus on a specific mental disorder, mental illness in general, or target a specific population.
