Description: CSREES announces the availability of grant funds
and requests
applications for the Community Food Projects Competitive
Grants Program (CFPCGP) for fiscal year (FY) 2007 to support:
(1)
the development of Community Food Projects with a one-time
infusion of federal dollars to make such projects self-sustaining;
(2) projects that provide (3)Training and Technical Assistance
on a nationwide or regional basis to entities interested
in developing new Community Food Projects or assisting current
grantees; and (3) Planning Projects to assess the food security
needs and plan long-term solutions to help ensure food security
in communities Community Food Projects should be designed
to
(1): (A) meet the food needs of low-income people; (B) increase
the self-reliance of communities in providing for their own
food needs; and (C) promote comprehensive responses to local
food, farm, and nutrition issues; and/or (2) meet specific
state, local, or neighborhood food and agriculture needs
for (A) infrastructure improvement and development; (B) planning
for long-term solutions; or (C) the creation of innovative
marketing activities that mutually benefit agricultural producers
and low-income consumers.

SSA Work Incentives Planning and Assistance Projects

Eligibility: Eligible applicant organizations are ONLY those
already awarded by SSA for the WIPA program and having a current
Budget Period end date of May 31, 2007.
Description: Section 1149 of the Social Security Act, as added
by section 121 of the Ticket to Work and Work Incentives Improvement
Act of 1999 (TWWIIA), requires the Commissioner of Social Security
(the Commissioner) to establish a community-based work incentives
planning and assistance program for the purpose of disseminating
accurate information to beneficiaries with disabilities on
work incentives programs and issues related to such programs
to assist them in their employment efforts. The Commissioner
has established a competitive program of cooperative agreements
to provide work incentives planning, assistance and outreach.
This SSA program is called the Work Incentives Planning and
Assistance (WIPA) Program. The WIPA program also provides information
on the availability of protection and advocacy services to
beneficiaries with disabilities, including beneficiaries participating
in the Ticket to Work and Self-Sufficiency Program established
under section 1148, the Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
program established under section 1619, and other programs
that are designed to encourage beneficiaries with disabilities
to seek, maintain and regain employment. The WIPA Program is
an important part of SSA’s employment strategy for beneficiaries
with disabilities. One of SSA’s goals in implementing
TWWIIA is to help achieve a substantial increase in the number
of beneficiaries with disabilities who return to work and achieve
greater self sufficiency.

Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) Operator Safety Training Grant

target participants who are currently unemployed or underemployed,
and programs that provide job placement services to drivers
upon completion of training.
Description: CMV Operator Safety Training Grants are provided
by FMCSA to train CMV operators and future drivers in the safe
operation of commercial motor vehicles
(CMV). This grant opportunity has two goals: To expand the number of Commercial
Driver’s License (CDL) holders possessing enhanced operator safety training
in order to further reduce the severity and the number of crashes on US roads
involving CMVs; and to assist economically distressed regions of the U.S. by
providing workforce training opportunity for qualified individuals to become
CMV operators.

and financial situation. The Jeannette Rankin Foundation honors
the name and legacy of an American woman of incredible spirit
and determination by providing much needed aid to women with
the same attributes. Jeannette Rankin was a proponent of women's
rights and was the first woman to be elected to the United
States Congress in 1916. Upon her death, Rankin left a portion
of her Georgia estate to assist "mature, unemployed women
workers."

Science to Service Awards To Honor Mental Health and Substance
Abuse Interventions
Funding Source: U.S. Department of Health and Human Service,
Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)
Funding Award: A maximum of three awards will be made in each
of the four categories (Substance abuse prevention; Substance
abuse treatment; Mental health promotion; and Mental health
treatment). Award winners will be notified in 2007, and will
travel to Washington D.C. expenses-paid for a Science to Service
Awards Ceremony. Each organizational recipient will receive
a commemorative award, and will be further recognized by SAMHSA
for its successful implementation efforts.
Eligibility: To be eligible for a Science to Service Award,
an organization must have successfully implemented a recognized
evidence-based intervention. Recognized interventions include
those that are published in the scientific literature and/or
appear on a Federal and/or state registry of evidence-based
interventions. The organization implementing the evidence-based
intervention should be able to demonstrate positive outcomes
from the intervention in at least one of the following categories:
(1) Substance abuse prevention; (2) Treatment of substance
abuse and recovery support services; (3) Mental health promotion;
and (4) Treatment of mental illness and recovery support services.
Community-based organizations and/or coalitions wishing to
voluntarily submit information regarding their implementation
of one or more evidence-based interventions are eligible for
award selection. Both public sector (State, local, territorial,
tribal) and private sector organizations are eligible to compete
for these awards. Interested organizations should use the format
outlined below (in “Application Process”) to provide
relevant information.
Description: SAMHSA has advanced a Science to Service Initiative
to facilitate knowledge dissemination, promote the rapid implementation
of effective, evidenced-based mental health and substance abuse
interventions into routine clinical and community-based practice,
and strengthen feedback from the field to influence and frame
services research programs. Science to Service Awards is a
way of recognizing community-based organizations and/or coalitions
that successfully have implemented one or more recognized evidence-based
interventions to benefit consumers and/or communities. SAMHSA
plans to pilot test this award process by bestowing these awards
annually over the next three years.

Intel Corporation School of Distinction Awards

Eligibility: This awards program is open to K-12 public, private,
charter, parochial schools in the United States, Department
of Defense Dependents Schools, and Bureau of Indian Affairs
schools. Home schools are not eligible. Entry is limited to
one entry per school.
Description: To identify schools that exemplify the best of
the best and serve as role models to other schools across the
nation. In 2007, Schools of Distinction has undergone a transformation
focusing on two subject areas which are key to our nation's
future—math and science. The focus will not be on identifying
schools with learning environments that promote 21st century
learning skills, such as digital literacy, problem solving,
critical thinking and collaboration as a benchmark for academic
excellence in mathematic and scientific achievement. There
are two categories for the 2007 Intel Schools of Distinction
award - Math and Science. There will be three winners selected
per category - one at the elementary level (k-5), one at the
middle school level (6-8), and one at the high school level
(9-12). Please determine in which level and category you will

Igniting Creative Energy Awards
Funding Source: National Energy Foundation; Johnson Controls,
Inc
Funding Award: Three students, one from each grade cluster,
and one teacher will experience the educational trip of a lifetime
April 10-14, 2007. The experience will include a full schedule
of VIP events and destinations. Winners will also participate
in the National Energy Efficiency Forum in Washington D.C.
June 12-13, 2007, where they will share their Challenge entries
and ideas with government and energy leaders. Entries worthy
of publication will be posted on the ICE web site on or around
May 1, 2007. Certificates of Appreciation can be downloaded
from the ICE web site for all those who participated in the
Challenge. Pins will not be available this year. (The Florida
Energy Office, Florida Office of Environmental Protection is
providing funding through the Southeast EnergySmart Schools
in Action partnership grant and the US Department of Energy
