Starbucks Foundation Offers Youth Leadership Grant Program

Funding Amounts: Grants range from $5,000 to $20,000
Eligibility: registered nonprofit 501 (c)(3) charities that: deliver services to youth between the ages of 6-18 and address at least on of the foundation's Youth Leaders action areas; provide opportunities for Starbucks partners and stores to be integrated in a meaningful way; are nondiscriminatory in their policies and practices
with regards to physical abilities, gender, race, age, sexual orientation, ethnic origin, and/or creed. In addition, priority will be given to organizations that: reach traditionally underserved communities and communities of color; represent models in non-traditional learning environments and are directly engaged in service delivery; demonstrate program sustainability
Description: the Starbucks Foundation funds local programs that serve low-income, at- risk youth through its Youth Leadership Grant Program. Grants are given in two areas: 1) Power of Literacy -- Funding for programs that stimulate personal development and a commitment to social equity, justice, and environmental awareness through writing, literacy and expression in public forums.
2) Leaders in Diversity -- Funding for programs that teach the value of societal diversity and develop youth leadership skills to foster understanding between individuals, groups and communities. View the list of organizations that have received funding in 2003.

Youth in Action/Community Service Grant

Funding Organization: MetLife Foundation
Funding Amount: Over $36,000 available
Description: Community action grants will be awarded in the amount of $500 to $2,000 to support ongoing community service programs or to stimulate new and creative youth-led community service programs. Grants require youth teams to identify critical issues in their communities, develop activities to address these issues, and educate and involve other young people and adults in community service. Youth are to take leadership roles and be actively involved in writing the proposal and implementing the service project. Community service projects that take place after the school day are encouraged.

Coca Cola Foundation Educational Grants

Eligibility:Organizations with tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, or the equivalent.
Description: The Coca-Cola Foundation encourages new solutions to countless problems that impede educational systems today, and it supports existing programs that work. Because the challenges for education are so broad, the Foundation's commitment is multifaceted. It offers support to public and private colleges and universities, elementary and secondary schools, teacher-training programs, educational programs for minority students, and global educational programs. The Coca-Cola Foundation devotes much of its efforts to partnership in three main areas: 1. Higher Education- Pipeline programs connecting various levels of education that encourage students to stay in school and to proceed with confidence to college and perhaps graduate school; Scholarship programs in support of graduate and undergraduate students; Minority advancement in the form of scholarships, urban programs and cultural diversity programs.
2. Classroom Teaching and Learning- Innovative K-12 public school programs, Teacher development programs, Smaller projects dealing with specific activities in the elementary and secondary classroom 3. Global Education- Global exchange programs which encourage international studies, global understanding, or student faculty exchange, Programs outside the United States promoting education.

Deadline: The Coca-Cola Foundation Board of Directors review funding recommendations in quarterly meetings. All requests receive a written response when the review process is complete. Do not send multiple copies, video tapes or other attachments.

Humana Foundation

The Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation, INC (ELA)

Funding Amount: Grants range from $1000 to $5000 per project.
Eligibility: nonprofit organizations which are led by or support adults with disabilities The organizations must be tax exempt under US IRS Code 501(c) (3) and have been in existence two years or longer.
Description: ELA’s mission is to promote, through grants and scholarships, the inclusion of people with disabilities in the areas of arts, advocacy and education.
The Ethel Louise Armstrong Foundation, Inc. (ELA) was founded by Margaret Staton in 1994 to "Change the Face of Disability on the Planet". Named after her maternal grandmother, ELA seeks especially to support the work of organizations that are led by or support the work of women with disabilities, encouraging distinctive projects that make a substantial difference.

Rosie's For All Kids Foundation

Funding Amount: Grant awards for program support typically range between $5,000 and $10,000.
Eligibility: Grants are only awarded to nonprofit organizations with a 501 (c) (3) classification. The foundation does not provide support to individuals or families, nor does it provide support to boards of education, school districts, individual public schools or athletic teams. In addition, the foundation does not support fundraising events, such as dinners and golf tournaments.
Description: provide financial support to nonprofit programs serving economically disadvantaged and at-risk children and their families. Since its inception, the foundation has helped thousands of children across the country through grant awards to child care, after-school, education and other essential programs. The foundation's main focus is center-based child care, and first priority is given to programs serving low-income, urban areas, where many families struggle to find quality child care and early childhood education programs.
Application Information: Letters of intent should be addressed to the foundation's Grant Review Committee, Rosie's For All Kids Foundation, P.O. Box 225, Allendale, NJ 07401 To be considered by the Grant Review Committee, letters of intent, MUST include:
1) IRS classification of the organization
2) Mission and history of the organization, including the year of inception
3) Description of the program or project for which funds are requested

7) Amount of funds requested

Deadline: The foundation has two funding cycles per year with disbursements typically occurring in February/March and in September/October. Organizations that are invited to submit full applications will be informed at the time they apply as to which funding cycle they will fall into.

2003 Gulfstream Environmental and Recreational Trust Program Grants

Funding Organization: Gulfstream Natural Gas System, L.L.C. www.gulfstreamgas.com
Funding Amount: Applicants may request up to $50,000 per project.
Gulfstream will set aside for this program $100,000 during the first year of construction, and $50,000 each subsequent year for the first five years of operation. If Gulfstream does not award all money set aside for any year of the program, the remainder will carry forward tot he next year. Grants will be awarded based on community need, environmental benefit, community support and ability to complete the project as proposed. Funding will be provided for at least five projects each year for the life of the program.
Eligibility: Applicants are required to be tax exempt entities with 501(c)(3)-tax status.
Description: The Gulfstream Environmental & Recreational Trust program was created in 2000 to distribute at least $350,000 during the first five years of pipeline operations to benefit communities near the pipeline route. Placed into service in May 2002, Gulfstream Natural Gas System, L.L.C. is a 581-mile pipeline system with the capacity to deliver 1.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas each day to serve Florida's growing energy needs. The pipeline is a joint development between Williams (NYSE:WMB) and Duke Energy (NYSE:DUK) GERT projects should provide community benefits for environmental and recreational resources such as: enhancement of open spaces and park land for recreational enjoyment, assistance in the enrichment of wildlife habitat
Promotion of environmental education, purchases of property for preservation of wetlands and wildlife habitat, purchases of property to access public lands, water resources, scenic and wildlife views, and for enhancement or development of active recreational areas.

SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund

Eligibility: Grant proposals are accepted from organizations and individuals. Proposals will be reviewed and grants awarded on a semi-annual basis.
Description: Busch Entertainment Corporation, a family entertainment subsidiary of Anheuser-Busch Cos., Inc., has announced the creation of a private charitable foundation to substantially increase its current financial support for environmental, research, education, and animal rescue programs. The fund will make grants in support of wildlife conservation projects conducted by recognized charitable organizations and noted scientists throughout the world. Planned types of projects include species research, terrestrial and aquatic; habitat protection; animal rescue & rehabilitation; and

Microsoft Unlimited Potential (UP) Grants

Eligibility: Microsoft will consider the following CTLC organizational types eligible for funding: Nonprofit (in the U.S., 501(c)(3) designation) or non-governmental organizations that hold charitable status in their country, School-based (a nonprofit or governmental organization that provides services to the community during non-school hours such as evenings and weekends),Government funded and operated.
Description: Microsoft® Unlimited Potential (UP) is a global initiative that focuses on improving lifelong learning for disadvantaged young people and adults by providing technology skills through community technology and learning centers (CTLCs). A community technology center is a free or low-cost, friendly place (in a community center, school, library, housing facility, or other convenient location) where people of all ages and abilities can come to learn about computers, use the Internet, explore new careers, further their education, participate in community activities, or develop technology skills." Microsoft seeks to remove the limits to individual potential around the world by eliminating technology illiteracy.
