FASTEN is the Faith and Service Technical Education
Network, and is offering this grant competition where Florida-based
FBCOs are eligible to compete for awards of up to $10 K in
each of 3 service categories, including disaster response,
community rebuilding and addressing pockets of deep poverty.
Multiple small awards of $250 will also be made. The deadline
is March 1, 2006, and this seems to be a very good opportunity
for smaller “grass roots” FBCOs for whom these
smaller monetary amounts are attractive and attainable.

INFORMATION SHEET
Thank you for your interest in the 2006 Partners in Transformation
competition. This information sheet provides a basic overview
of the contest, including information on this year’s
theme, the geographic focus of the competition, the awards,
and the timeline. Before entering the contest, you will also
want to read through the Eligibility
Guidelines to ensure that
your organization qualifies and to understand which of the
three applications you should fill out, based on the program
that you wish to submit for consideration. We have also prepared
a Frequently
Asked Questions document to assist you in understanding
the competition. You may enter the contest by downloading an
application and then mailing two (2) copies of it to FASTEN,
c/o Sagamore Faith in Communities 757 King St., Charlottesville,
VA 22903 or by completing an on-line application. (See links
below.) Application deadline is MARCH 1, 2006.
Theme for 2006
The 2006 Partners in Transformation competition will focus
especially on three categories of service whose need has
been highlighted through the recent Gulf Coast hurricanes:
1. Emergency Disaster Response (short-term relief efforts);
2. Community Recovery/Rebuilding Efforts (long-term developmental
efforts, e.g., jobs and housing);
3. Services Addressing Deep Pockets of Poverty (e.g., programs
serving high-risk youth, healthcare for the indigent, jobs
programs for the chronically underemployed, etc. in historically
poor/distressed neighborhoods).
(For more detailed descriptions of the categories, see the
Eligibility Guidelines.)

Geographic Focus
The 2006 competition will focus on activities in 10 states
where these services are currently most needed, or have been
in great demand in recent years due to other natural disasters
and terrorist attacks: AL, CA, FL, LA, MS, NC, NY, OK, TX,
and VA.
FBOs and houses of worship with annual organizational budgets
of under $5 million located in these states will be eligible
to enter. Applicants will submit individual programs for consideration,
and may enter more than one program (for example, an organization
may submit one program in category 2 and a different program
in category 3 for consideration).
Awards
The top-scoring 10 programs in each of the three categories
of service will be selected as semi-finalists (30 in total).
Organizations operating these programs will be awarded $250
