2. Grants from the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation Program
Areas:
The foundation's work is focused on two areas: youth development and
entrepreneurship. The foundation supports programs that promote the development
of children from birth to young adulthood. Moreover, it provides funding
and technical assistance to build quality programs and provide services
in the areas of early education, urban K-12 education, in- and out-of-school
activities, and neighborhood development.
Eligibility:
In general, Kauffman Foundation grants are limited to programs and/or
initiatives that have significant potential to demonstrate innovative
service delivery, community support, and/or public policy opportunities
in support of youth and entrepreneurs. Please visit the foundation's
Web site at http://www.emkf.org/pages/49.cfm for
funding restrictions. Award Amounts: There are no established maximum
or minimum dollar amounts. Grant size ranges from a few thousand to several
million dollars, depending on the size of the organization and the scope
of the project. The foundation reviews the amount needed for each specific
project based on the scope of work and expected outcomes.
Application Process:
The foundation does not use a grant application form or formal application
process. It accepts letters of inquiry on an ongoing basis, and a screening
committee reviews all letters as they are received. Applicants may submit
a letter of inquiry, preferably less than three pages long. This letter
should include the following information: A description of your organization
and a brief summary of your organization's achievements in relation to
the problem or need you are addressing in your proposal. A statement
of the problem or need you plan to address and an explanation of how
your organization will respond to it. (Include a brief statement of the
intended outcomes you expect to achieve through your efforts.) Also provide
a brief explanation of how your proposal fits within one (or more) of
the five outcomes identified by the Kauffman Foundation (see http://www.emkf.org/pages/49.cfm for
the list of outcomes). Explain the timeframe for the proposed activities.
Estimate the cost of the entire project or activity and include the specific
amount requested from the Kauffman Foundation. If you are seeking or
have secured funds from another organization to help support your proposal,
include that information as well. Please do not send annual reports,
publications, bound materials, letters of support, invoices, photographs,
videos, cassettes, compact discs, news clippings, books, magazines or
newsletters. The majority of our Youth Development grants go to organizations
within the Kansas City metropolitan area. Some funding is awarded for
selected regional and national programs focused on the youth development
outcomes the foundation seeks. Deadlines:
