Career Council

(Fomerly Better Jobs/Better Wages)

The Career Council helps underemployed workers improve their skills so they can get better jobs with better wages that provide economic self-sufficiency. It also is responsible for overseeing the state's welfare transition program with an expanded emphasis on helping former welfare recipients succeed in the workplace and avoid a return to dependence upon cash assistance. The strategy may also look at moving workers from part-time to full-time work, and embraces the concept of lifelong learning.

The Career Council defines the overarching goal and objectives for Welfare Transition Program clients, Welfare-to-Work Program clients, and underemployed adult workers. To accomplish its goal and objectives, the Career Council partners with the 24 regional workforce boards, the regional Career Committees and other organizations that have an interest in improving Florida’s workforce to better meet the needs of the state’s businesses and citizens.

The Council identifies specific issues for the targeted population groups listed above that need policies/guidance documents to clarify statutory intent. Based on input from staff of regional workforce boards, other agencies/ organizations and/or Florida citizens, policies/guidance documents are created, approved by the Council and the Workforce Florida Board and posted on the Agency for Workforce Innovation’s website for access by all interested parties.
